HEISMAN LANDS A THRILLING BAR ONE SPRINT FINAL

The final of the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup provided a real spectacle at Dundalk on Friday with Heisman landing the €20,000 prize with a professional display of sprinting as he held off the brave bitch Forest Natalee in an enthralling finish.

The pair served up a thriller, but the difference was the electric starting of Heisman, who is jointly owned by brothers Laurence and Brian Jones.

Pat Hogan’s Aulton Jet was installed the hot 6-4 favourite, but he was never a factor on this occasion as he missed the kick. Both Heisman and Forest Natalee were returned the 3-1 joint second favourites.

Heisman rocketed from trap five to dictate in the early yards and at the turn he led up from Forest Natalee with Fleetwood Lee in third. Heisman was a length in front on the bend from Forest Natalee but Fleetwood Lee was badly baulked as he was collared by the improving Aulton Jet. Once making the turn in front, Heisman was going to be very difficult to pick up and so it proved.

Forest Natalee really dug deep and edged closer with each stride but Heisman had no intention of handing away the lead. The January ’15 son of Brett Lee and Claddagh Pearl stuck to his task grimly to contain the advancing Forest Natalee by a head in a sensational 20.96, just .02 shy of his own record.
